Wereldvrede bijna wel uitgebroken

Opmerkelijk fragment bovenstaand waarin Trump 'eerlijk toegeeft' Netanyahu te hebben gevraagd Iran niet aan te vallen. En wel omdat Trump zegt dat een mogelijke deal heel nabij is en een Israëlische aanval daarmee "ongepast" zou zijn. Ook zegt hij dat de deal niet gebaseerd is op vertrouwen, maar op harde, meetbare, verifieerbare parameters. 

"If we can settle it with a very strong document, very strong. With inspections, and no trust. I don't trust anybody, I don't trust anybody, so no trust. We can go in with inspectors, we can take whatever we want, we can blow up whatever we want, but nobody getting killed.

We can blow up a lab, but nobody is going to be in the lab, as opposed to everybody being in the lab and blowing it up, right, two ways of doing it?

I told him [Netanyahu] this would be inappropriate to do right now because we're very close to a solution. That could change at any moment, it could change with a phone call. But right now I think they want to make a deal and save a lot of lives."

Nou daar zit geen woord Farsi of Hebreeuws tussen. Tegelijkertijd maken Amerikaanse inlichtingendiensten zich (net als anderhalve week geleden nog steeds) zorgen om een unilaterale Israëlische aanval op Irans nucleaire faciliteiten, misschien zelfs nádat er een Amerikaanse deal gesloten is. De New York Times schrijft: "One concern for American officials is that Israel could decide to strike Iran with little warning. U.S. intelligence has estimated that Israel could prepare to mount an attack on Iran in as little as seven hours, leaving little time to pressure Mr. Netanyahu into calling it off. (...) Israeli officials have told their American counterparts that Mr. Netanyahu could order a strike on Iran even if a successful diplomatic agreement is reached." We blijven kijken.

UPDATE 18:02 - Ondertussen zou een staakt-het-vuren met Hamas toch weer dichterbij zijn: "Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told hostage families earlier today that he is prepared to move forward with US special envoy Steve Witkoff’s latest temporary ceasefire and hostage deal proposal, the Axios news site reports."
