Goed nieuws met een voetnoot

Neushoorns, fantastisch gewerkt afgelopen jaren. De IUCN, niet te verwarren met de UNSC, meldt dat het aantal neushoorns in Afrika vorig jaar voor het eerst in tien jaar weer toenam. "A combination of protection and biological management initiatives have resulted in an overall tally of 6,487 black rhinos in Africa, up 4.2% from 2021. White rhinos now number around 16,803 animals, an increase of 5.6%. Notably, this is the first increase in white rhino numbers since 2012." Prachtig gedaan, en vast ook niet in de laatste plaats door de inzet van anti-stroper Rangers.

Maar er is ook nieuws dat meer sober stemt. Lizzo is namelijk alweer - inmiddels voor de derde keer - in opspraak wegens wangedrag richting haar personeel. Een nieuwe aanklacht door een kledingassistente [zwart, v] tijdens een tour in 2023 meldt dat tour-leidinggevende Amanda Nomura [waarschijnlijk niet zwart, wel v] "was brutal, often making racist and fatphobic comments -- allegedly calling Black women on the tour "dumb" "useless" and "fat." Daniels also claims Nomura told her she wasn't allowed to dress sexy around Lizzo because Lizzo would get jealous when her boyfriend was around other beautiful women." Ook zou er sprake zijn geweest van "that a backstage manager on the tour sent a photo “graphically depicting male genitalia” to a group text message."

Lizzo's woordvoerder reageert terwijl Lizzo - een slecht mens - de Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award **in ontvangst neemt: 

"As Lizzo receives a Humanitarian Award tonight from the Black Music Action Coalition for the incredible charitable work she has done to lift up all people, an ambulance-chasing lawyer tries to sully this honor by recruiting someone to file a bogus, absurd publicity-stunt lawsuit who, wait for it, never actually met or even spoke with Lizzo. We will pay this as much attention as it deserves. None."
