Terwijl iedereen denkt: 'Hee Minnesota staat in brand', opende Trump een nieuw front.

Toch ff meepakken dit, want internet. Veel ingewikkelde juridische Yankentaal, maar we proberen het toch maar een beetje te begrijpen. Gister heeft Trump per executive order kenbaar gemaakt dat Twitter ff moet kappen met dat partijdige gedoe. De essentie is dat Trump Twitter hun status als 'neutraal platform' wil ontnemen, en het de status van 'publisher' op wil leggen. Een platform wordt beschermd door het zogeheten 'limited liability shield' dat voorschrijft dat een online platform "may not be made liable “on account of” its decision in “good faith” to restrict access to content that it considers to be “obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing or otherwise objectionable.”"

Trump wil Twitter dat schild ontnemen omdat het volgens hem als uitgever handelt dat editorial beslissingen maakt over materie op hun platform, en het schild misbruikt voor "deceptive or pretextual actions (often contrary to their stated terms of service) to stifle viewpoints with which they disagree. Section 230 was not intended to allow a handful of companies to grow into titans controlling vital avenues for our national discourse .under the guise of promoting open forums for debate, and then to provide those behemoths blanket immunity when they use their power to censor content and silence viewpoints that they dislike."

Maar, zoals zowel Shapiro na de breek en Reason Magazine. "The order erroneously suggests that Section 230 only applies if online companies moderate content in ways that are explicitly laid out in their terms of service, though nothing in Section 230 comes close to saying this. (...) But "otherwise objectionable" is a completely discretionary standard and can encompass just about anything." Maar zoals, Reason Magazine eveneens opmerkt, de executive order is in ieder geval wel gewoon een Trumpiaans schot voor de boeg dat zijn onderhandelingspositie versterkt. "Trump's mandate might not hold up in court, but just by issuing it, Trump sends a not-so-subtle threat to Twitter, Facebook, and other internet companies."

Ondertussen in navolging van de geblokkeerde Trump-tweet vanmorgen, blokkeert Twitter nu ook de RT door het Witte Huis.
