In navolging van Spanje en Italië blijkt nu dat het van oudsher zeer neutrale Oostenrijk vanaf dag 1 al dwars lag. Geen NAVO-lid, maar wel precies op de route vanuit Engeland. In ander nieuws lijkt pro-Iraanse, sjiitische militie in Irak Kataib Hezbollah bereid tot onderhandelingen over de door hen ontvoerde Amerikaanse journaliste Shelly Kittleson. De New York Times schrijft: "An Iraqi militia allied with Iran offered on Wednesday to negotiate with the Iraqi government for the release of a kidnapped American journalist, according to two Iraqi security officials. (...) On Wednesday, representatives of the militia contacted Iraqi government officials, the two security figures said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. They demanded the release of several detained militia members in exchange for freeing the journalist, Shelly Kittleson." Opmerkelijk dat, met een Amerikaanse staatsburger in handen, hun eisen zo bescheiden en plaatselijk klinken, in plaats van dat deze Iraanse proxy een breder Iraans belang probeert te dienen. Dit wijst er mogelijk op dat Irans macht over Iraakse milities sterk afgenomen is, wat niet heel verbazingwekkend is aangezien de ene naar andere gehele commandoketen daar gedood wordt.

Update 18:19 - Bloomberg schrijft dat Trump Amerika's defensieuitgaven in 2027 met tot zo'n $1,5 biljoen zal verhogen. "President Donald Trump is preparing to release a fiscal year 2027 budget plan on Friday that will frame his party’s midterm election message around a massive defense buildup, partially paid for by cuts to domestic agencies and health-care entitlements. (...) Trump has said he will be seeking to boost defense spending to $1.5 trillion from less than $1 trillion in the current fiscal year. The details of how this massive increase will be spent are yet unknown."

Update 19:28 - Trump heeft zijn AG Pam Bondi ontslagen. Fox News schrijft: "President Donald Trump reportedly has already fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, according to two sources familiar with the matter who spoke with Fox News Digital. Bondi met with Trump in the Oval Office Wednesday night ahead of his speech to the nation on the war in Iran, where she reportedly was informed of her ouster, according to two sources familiar with the meeting. The alleged ouster follows a recent New York Times report detailing that Trump was preparing to replace Bondi with Zeldin as the president had become increasingly dissatisfied with her performance in the role." Update 20:05 - Jetten wil helpen met het beveiligen van de Straat van Hormuz, maar alleen onder de strike voorwaarde dat het dan niet meer nodig is. "Pas als de Iran-oorlog is gestopt, is Nederland bereid een militaire bijdrage te leveren aan de beveiliging van de Straat van de Hormuz. Premier Jetten heeft dat gezegd in een gesprek met de NOS. De Nederlandse marine zou bijvoorbeeld kunnen helpen met het opruimen van zeemijnen, maar alleen onder de strikte voorwaarde dat de aanvallen tussen Iran, de VS, Israël en de Golfstaten zijn gestopt."
