Trump stelt sancties in tegen Internationaal Strafhof wegens arrestatiebevel Netanyahu en toenmalig MinDef Yoav Gallant

Is dit onze wereldorde nog wel?

Slechte dag voor mensen die in het 'internationaal recht' geloven. Trump stelt sancties in tegen het Internationaal Strafhof wegens het arrestatiebevel dat het tegen Netanyahu en zijn toenmalige MinDef Yoav Gallant uitvaardigde. ICC-hoofdaanklager Karim Ahmad Kahn kwam eind mei met het volstrekt normale onderstaande filmpje, een soort Doomsday Clock voor 'juristen', waarin hij het arrestatiebevel aankondigde. Leidde natuurlijk tot een hoop ongemak onder lidstaten die voor de goede schijn ineens moesten doen alsof ze Netanyahu daadwerkelijk zouden arresteren als hij hun bodem betrad, en ook Nederland speelde dat spel mee. Polen was overigens ruimtelijk genoeg Netanyahu niet te arresteren als hij vorige maand de Auschwitz-herdenking zou bezoeken, al stuurde hij uiteindelijk toch maar zijn minister van Onderwijs.

Maar goed, van dat alles denkt Trump nu het zijne, en meldt in een persbericht: "The ICC has, without a legitimate basis, asserted jurisdiction over and opened preliminary investigations concerning personnel of the United States and certain of its allies, including Israel, and has further abused its power by issuing baseless arrest warrants targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Former Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant. (...) The United States will impose tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for the ICC’s transgressions, some of which may include the blocking of property and assets, as well as the suspension of entry into the United States of ICC officials, employees, and agents, as well as their immediate family members, as their entry into our Nation would be detrimental to the interests of the United States."

Clubs als Amnesty International noemen Trumps sancties "roekeloos en wraakzuchtig". Een beetje als 7 oktober, zeg maar! Nederlandse MinBuz Veldkamp, die eind november dus nog zei Netanyahu te zullen arresteren als hij Nederlandse bodem betrad, reageert met: "Nederland betreurt het decreet over het Internationaal Strafhof. Het werk van het hof is essentieel in de strijd tegen straffeloosheid. Ons land heeft een sterke reputatie en verantwoordelijkheid als gastland van belangrijke internationaalrechtelijke instituten." Is de implicatie hier dat Netanyahu volgens Nederland alsnog 'gestraft' moet worden?
